MUSEUM International N°248 Haiti, Cultural Heritage and Reconstruction

This issue of MUSEUM International focuses on Haiti’s heritage a year on from the earthquake. Leaving aside the tragedy itself, the articles aim to underline the scientific and administrative structures put in place in the decades prior to the earthquake for the preservation of Haiti’s cultural heritage. It also attempts to highlight the positive effects of such structures in strengthening the nation and its current reconstruction. In its own way, this issue contributes to the cultural dimension of the Action Plan for the National Recovery and Development of Haiti. The first chapter contains an outline of institutional achievements by Haitian leaders. It provides a framework for restoring the broken ties between contemporary Haitian society and its history. The challenge of development based on cultural reconstruction is expressed in the second chapter through the voices of international players and researchers. This issue attests to the potential on which Haiti and its political and professional leaders can draw to achieve the challenge ahead. As the painful memories of the tragedy fade, the international community must now maintain its determination to join in their endeavor and take up the challenge of sustainable solidarity with Haiti.

MUSEUM International N°248 is also published in Chinese, French and Russian.
